When we move to another country to live, we leave behind the certainty  of knowing where to go on long weekends or where are the best ‘escapes’ for enjoying that short holiday from work, or where are the best places to take our children during school holidays, or, which would be the best places  to take visitors.

After arriving in Thailand and letting the anxiety of moving in wear off,  you will realize that you don’t have that security anymore, that you would have to ask to somebody else, but then, you also will see that you don’t know a lot of people yet.

As we understand this, because we have already experienced all that ourselves, we have made a search that will save your time and efforts finding links with , as far as we know,  reliable information in each activity, trying to make a list of choices as broader as possible, without judgments because it is, in the end, a personal decision.

We would like to point out that everything in Pattaya changes very fast,  business and attractions open and close all the time. It might be possible some of these sites are not available anymore.

If that were the case, you can always get in contact with us  to let us know. It is also very possible  that you have a business or attraction you would like to list on this page, we are more than happy to do so as long as you drop us a line in the link given above 🙂

Pattaya, and the Eastern Seaboard area, have an endless and still growing number of choices for enjoying your leisure time, whether alone or with your family. The tropical weather encourages the practice of outdoors sports, especially water sports which are practiced all along Pattaya’s coast line.

Adding to that, there is a wide range of indoor activities. There is no way you will get bored or inactive in this city, so from all kind of sports and games, healthy relaxing yoga and meditation classes, dancing classes to Classical music concerts or theater functions; from relaxing strolls along the beaches to Pattaya’s Annual Marathon…there’s plenty to choose from!

We have listed  several choices and activities that, hopefully, you will find interesting. The list starts  with table games that you can play  with your group of friends enjoying  a calm atmosphere, followed by  sports, and  dancing, which has proved to be physically demanding though totally fun.

After that you will need time for relaxation, through yoga and meditation classes without forgetting the possibility of being pampered during a session of massage and spa, just to feel renovated after a long day or just because you wish to have a day for yourself .

You also will see that there is time  for learning from the rich Thai culture. You might be interested in  taking classes of  Thai cooking or  learning the Thai language or just enjoying Thai Festivals and celebrations.

If you are more interested in leaning about Thai history, culture and religion, Pattaya also has something to offer you. From museums here in the city or the possibility to join organisations dedicated to the study of Thai culture.  Please, keep rolling down, and you will find what you are looking for. What really suits you.

There is one thing that you can take for granted living in Pattaya: you will have the opportunity to enjoy any kind of  entertainments, as cinema, theatre, music concerts (classical or rock), cabarets, ending at Walking Street…Now,  enjoy the Fun…

All about Golf and where to play in Pattaya

Golf is the most practiced sport by expats, it could be said that is a ‘speciality’ of the region, with more than 20 courses within an hour of Pattaya. Many of them were designed by some of golf’s most famous names, as Kick Faldo ( Great Lakes Golf Course) Jack Nicklaus ( Laem Chabang Golf Course), Gary Player ( Sri Racha Golf Course) and Robert Trent Jones ( Eastern Star Resort and Country Club).

If you just have moved in and do not know which course to choose, a good start would be looking into The International Pattaya Golf Club website. It is a non-profit organization comprising five local golf societies, some of them rent clubs and footwear. One of these, The Pattaya Golf Society has a website with useful information and a course guide.

If you require a lesson, it is advisable to inquire at the driving ranges. But if you has just arrived, the best thing would be to join any of these clubs, or if you go to one of the social groups ( please go to Socializing- Social-Charitable Groups ) you very quickly will be introduced to somebody who already play golf..

Or go to our Forum where you will have and answer to your requirements…

Places where you can practice Water Sports

Due to Pattaya’s year-round warm climate and its privileged and tempting beaches, the number of options at the time of choosing a water sport activity, is really wide. You do not need to be a professional, there are water sports schools with trained personnel who will teach you and also, you can rent the equipment at the same place.

Then, keep in mind that in Pattaya’s beaches,  apart of practicing any water sport, you could find several restaurants on the beach,  where the whole family could enjoy a perfect day on the beach, especially if you go to one of  the long, peaceful beaches in Jomtien and Na Jomtien .

Now, please, have a look all you can do on Pattaya’ beaches:

Jet Skiing

Jet skys are part of Pattaya’s beaches. If you like , you could rent a Jet Sky any where along them, and that extends to Koh Larn. To find a jet sky for renting is not an issue, but it is advisable to be careful and aware…

If only I’d known…

Always check the jet sky that your are renting for any damage, including the smallest, and tell the operator before arranging any deal. There have been, there are and there will be notorious scams where jet ski operators try to extra-charge you for alleged damages to the vehicles, or simply overcharge you for the real ones. There is no insurance and Pattaya’s police force isn’t particularly famous for being helpful towards “farangs” in such cases…

Na Jomtien, November, 28th, 2015 23

Jet sky is one of the favourite water sports practiced on Pattaya beaches. Regardless of the beach you go, you will see this image, from early morning until late afternoon. Only recommendation is to be careful when renting the jet sky, there are many scams involving trusting foreigners. Before renting a jet sky, check it carefully making sure that it doesn’t have any damage or if it is so, clarify the situation with the owner. Just to avoid you paying something that you haven’t done. Photo Credit: Silvia Muda

Stand up paddle boarding

If only I’d known….

Be especially careful while enjoying any activity in the sea. Boats and jet skis might not have much caution and could come very close to where you are. If you are diving or just swimming, it is advisable to check around when you are on the surface..and if it were necessary, wave your arms, so you could be spotted.

Scuba Diving and snorkeling

We are so fortunate for living in this area of the Gulf of Thailand due to the fact that it is not badly affected by the monsoon season, so divers can enjoy good weather and water conditions all the year around, although October through May are the best time for diving. There are numerous islands in the area, stretching from Koh Larn, off Pattaya, to the Same group where divers and snorkelers, just south of Sattahip.

There’s one thing that comes to your mind when moving into a Buddhist country as Thailand, and that is Yoga , followed by  Meditation … so may be there are two things that come to our mind after all…

‘Yoga is a Hindu spiritual and ascetic discipline, which includes breath control, simple meditation, and the adoption of specific bodily postures, is widely practiced for health and relaxation.’..

Being such a healthy choice, there are an important number of places to choose . Fitness centers have included the practice of yoga in their programs, including different levels from yoga for beginners up to advanced , or Hot yoga . Also, the majority of hotels , specially those of international Standard, offer classes and facilities.

Yoga has became a common practice among expats, so when joining any Social Group ( please, see at Socializing- Things to do Section), you will easily found out where and with whom to go. If still couldn’t find an answer, please, go to our Forum, you might get a response that suits you.

Anyway, we have listed some places,  favourite  among ex-pats, so you will be able to choose one that it might be more convenient for you, depending of your activities and where you will be living.

  • Yoga Finder: we found this site that has a very interesting and complete list of places where you can practice different styles of yoga. Please, have a look into it… just for knowing some more places, perhaps, you will discover a place closer to your home .  Website:

Pilates is a physical fitness system developed in the early 20th century by the Greek German-born Joshep Pilates.

In his book, “Return to Life through Contrology”, Joseph Pilates presents his method as the art of controlled movements, which should look and feel like a workout (not a therapy) when properly manifested.

If practiced with consistency, Pilates improves flexibility, builds strength and develops control and endurance in the whole human body. It puts emphasis on alignment, breathing, improving coordination and balance.

Pilates’ system allows for different exercises to be modified in range of difficulty from beginner to advanced or to any other level, and also in terms of the instructor and practitioner’s specific goals and/or limitations. Intensity can be increased over time as the body conditions and adapts to the exercises.

PRS Studio  Facebook Page:

Please keep in mind that Pilates is offered along with Yoga, in the majority of Fitness Centers and Hotels, so please, see at Yoga section, above.

‘If there is one word describes meditation, is awareness’ : it is to be awake while awake, to be alive to the moment’.   ( from  “Teach yourself to meditate” , by Eric Harrison)

Meditation has been practiced since antiquity as a component of numerous religious traditions and beliefs, often involves an internal effort to self-regulate the mind in some way..a state in which the body is relaxed, the mind is quiet., but we are alive, alert, to the sensations of the moment..

Pattaya, although being a festive- leisure and entertainment city, also offers meditation retreats and courses in peaceful surroundings not only in some Buddhist temples, but also in hotels or fitness centers.

Being part of a regular  meditation group gives you quality time and space: no distractions, no kids,no phone, a supportive place and supportive people…just be yourself, along with yourself…

We found a place where you can get classes of Meditation in English:

yoga-nidra and meditation pattaya yogapattayacom

Meditation is that which gives you deep rest. The rest in meditation is deeper than the deepest sleep that you can ever have. When the mind becomes free from agitation, is calm and serene and at peace, meditation happens. Yoga nidra relaxes the entire system, preparing it for pranayama and meditation. It is therefore important to keep aside sufficient time for yoga nidra after yoga postures. For more information, visit : Photo Credit:

Time for Thai Culture

Thai culture is vast, rich, complex and some times difficult to grasp with our western minds. But there are aspects of Thai culture, that speak for themselves , that show what is to be Thai, by themselves: Thai cooking, Fruits carving, Thai Language. And these three aspects are the ones that not only we might be able to grasp, but the ones that we could learn, practice and why not, excel at them?

Thai Cooking and Fruit Carving

“What is Thai food? Every country in the world has its own food profile. It reflects its culture, environment, ingenuity and values. In the case of Thailand, these words come to mind: intricacy; attention to detail; texture; color; taste; and the use of ingredients with medicinal benefits, as well as good flavor.

We not only pay attention to how a dish tastes: we are also concerned about how it looks, how it smells, and how it fits in with the rest of the meal. We think of all parts of the meal as a whole – sum rap Thai (the way Thais eat), is the term we use for the unique components that make up a characteristically Thai meal.” (The Principles of Thai Cookery, by Mc Dang, celebrity chef, writer and authority on Thai cuisine)

“Thai cooking places emphasis on lightly prepared dishes with strong aromatic components and a spicy edge. It is known for its complex interplay of at least three and up to four or five fundamental taste senses in each dish or the overall meal: sour, sweet, salty, bitter and spicy. ” *

 *  We found this comment on Thai food  visiting:

We know this, and very soon you also will know it , and then, after having tasted delicious Thai food, may be you will get interested in learning how to prepare it. Luckily enough for expats with free time, and willing to learn cooking , there are places where to go for classes.

Thai cooking classes are available throughout the Kingdom including Pattaya. There are schools specialized in Thai cooking but also, there are  Cooking classes run in hotels.

We have listed a few places where you can get cooking classes, but as usually, we say, getting in contact with others expats at any of the social groups, will give you the opportunity to know as soon as a Cooking class is coming up.

Learning Thai Language

While the Thai language is the official language of Thailand, one could say English is its unofficial second language. As more and more tourist and business visitors from around the world had and are coming to Thailand, English naturally has become the common linguistic “currency”. But it is also true that more and more foreigns had and are learning Thai…

It really doesn’t matter whether you are a tourist, resident, exchange student, pensioner or on business, or a wife with  working husband, you are an expat living in Thailand. While living in Thailand  we, out of respect for the Thais, should speak the national language..or at least, just try.

Beyond any doubt, speaking Thai makes, or it would make, life in Thailand a little bit easier, and it should be considered more an investment than an expenditure…especially if you have a gift for learning new languages, because Thai is surely not the easiest language to learn that there is on this planet, but as we have said, it is essential to make an effort…

If you are interested in learning  Thai language, please, got o our Section: Where to learn Thai in Pattaya

Pattaya Roads and Sois- Sukhunvit Road 31

Looking at any traffic signal board is just daring, except you can read Thai. Luckily for us, in Pattaya, also they are written in English but if you travel upcountry to cities not as touristic as Pattaya, well, you will need some knowledge of Thai language. Learning Thai history, Arts and Culture

Finding places in Pattaya where we could  learn about Thai History, Art and culture, it might seems to be  not so easy. A different thing is Bangkok, as we have seen, where there a plenty opportunities. Having said that, we also are very glad to note that, although not so many,  we can count with a few of really interesting exceptions, as The Museum of Buddhist Art, the Anek Kusala Sala also known as the Chinese Museum, Khao Chi Chan, or the Buddha Mountain, and a group of temples. Not all is lost….

We have created a new page only for this topic :  Learning about Thai History and  Culture

So, please, visit :

We apologise we’re working on it , so you won’t be able to visit for now.

But , if you still feel that any activity  of all listed above, fits you, well, you always could…

Na Jomtien, June, 7th - 2015 - 13

if you couldn’t find an activity fit for you on our list above, well, you always would have the chance of giving a call to your friends and go to the beach..In this image, Na Jomtien Beach. Photo Credit: Silvia Muda
